Them are cold-eyed men-of-letters with Trickster’s mazes in their brainpans who would sooner fill you with so many quarrels from their hush-steels that a porcupine in heat would take you home for a rut than say ‘ello. I’d rather be buggered bloody with a boathook than cross ’em -Description of the Unkneeling from Harold, a porter of Wyvar.
The Unkneeling is a collection of criminals led by banished Apsara and the descendants of the banished, focusing their enterprise in Zapandi and the Free Ports. In the lands of the Autumn Court, criminals are punished by tattooing the crimes on their face or, for more serious crimes, the removal of fingers, toes, ears, noses, and sometimes castration. The Unkneeling invert the value of these marks, willfully tattooing their crimes on their skin and marking their allegiance to the Unkneeling through a sigil on their knees.
The Unkneeling involves itself primarily in smuggling, especially of narcotics such as Erbst Mohn, or Autumn’s Poppy. Though the organization will only allow Apsara in leadership roles, members of other races often find themselves in the employ of the Unkneeling.
