Benizuchi is a primary grain of the Autumn Court, a veritable miracle crop that the Apsara covet. It is a tall, white plant with grape-sized grains clustered inside of protective, black husks. Usually the grains are ground into a fine powder and used to bake a very nutritive form of bread.
The grain has a yield of about ten times that of normal wheat per acre, and additionally is much easier to harvest by hand than wheat. It is one of the Autumn Court’s primary exports, and the art of its creation is a tightly guarded secret. All seeds it exports of this grain are designed to fail after one or two generations, so that any purchaser must go back to the Apsara in order to plant another generation. Treaties in place with the Autumn Court demand that no attempts be made to breed the plant to eliminate its designed infertility, and thus most of the time the planting of this crop is only done in situations of predicted famine under the observation of government officials.
