Worldpain

“The world is a jail, our eyes its bars.”
-from The Trials of Young Gallant by Jon Lakrimy

“Worldpain” is a psychological condition among those connected to the Loom, in which they find that their interactions with the physical world are no longer satisfying or fulfilling and they descend into melancholy and despair. Some of those who suffer from worldpain will try and disconnect themselves from sensation of the physical world through the use of dulling drugs, such as Erbst Mohn, or through more extreme measures, such as induced blindness or deafness. Many who suffer from the condition simply say that they live on The Loom more than they do in the material world, and find nothing wrong with their retreat into the Loom, citing the practice of some more ancient monastic traditions.

Followers of The Alienist seek to treat those who suffer from worldpain, though the condition is the subject of a recent romanticized trend in the popular literature of southern Ackenzal, with some noble Tuners claiming the affliction in an attempt to affect the traits of their novelized heroes.
