Known as William d’Vesterine in his life, The Immortal is an anthem who is still worshiped in some circles as a true Ascendant.
William d’Vesterine was a Duke of Vesterine and a powerful practitioner of Tuning, an anagogic sorcerer trained from boyhood by the best that his family’s considerable wealth could provide. He was a patron of the Seekers, especially in their expeditions into the Delve, and built his own museum of the Nonmen is his Vesterine home.
He frequently experimented with various philters and alembics said to prolong life, an obsession of his, and is rumored to have hired the services of a Tekne wizard to aid in his pursuit. William d’Vesterine did live far beyond the usual lifespan of a human, reaching over a century and a half in age. His prolonged life was investigated by Inquisitors of the Ascendant Church, who sussed out that William d’Vesterine had bound himself to a Vestige he brought into his home through the acquisition of a Nonman artifact. When the inquisitors attempted to seize William, he brought down his manor around their heads, killing himself, and rising as an anathem.
